Fruit : Manggis (Mangosteen)

One of the sweet fruit is the Purple fruit Balinese called it Manggis, its seasonal fruit and easy you can find at traditional market in Bali or at super market as well.

The purple mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana), known simply as mangosteen, is a tropical evergreen tree believed to have originated in the Sunda Islands[citation needed] and the Moluccas[citation needed] of Indonesia. It grows mainly in Southeast Asia, southwest India and other tropical areas such as Puerto Rico and Florida, where the tree has been introduced.

The tree grows from 6 to 25 m (19.7 to 82.0 ft) tall. The fruit of the mangosteen is sweet and tangy, juicy, somewhat fibrous, with fluid-filled vesicles (like the flesh of citrus fruits), with an inedible, deep reddish-purple colored rind (exocarp) when ripe. In each fruit, the fragrant edible flesh that surrounds each seed is botanically endocarp, i.e., the inner layer of the ovary. Seeds are almond-shaped and sized.

The fruit is round, dark purple to reddish purple, smooth and about 1 1/3 to 3 inches in diameter. The flesh is snow white, juicy and soft, some may not contain seed. It is acclaimed for its luscious, delectable, slightly acidic flavor. It is called the “queen of tropical fruit.”

It is picky about place where to plant it. It needs deep rich organic soil, but it can also survive in sandy loam or clay containing course material. Quite elevated and humid temperature. Strong winds from storms harms them much, so great protection is needed.
